Following the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, Carnival Cruise Line has announced that it will temporarily be moving its Baltimore cruises to Norfolk, Virginia.
The line’s ship Carnival Legend is scheduled to return from its current sailing on Easter Sunday, March 31st. It will return to port on Sunday as scheduled, but to Norfolk instead of Baltimore. Guests will be provided complimentary bus service back to Baltimore to be reunited with their cars and other transportation to get back home.
Carnival Legend
Carnival Legend’s next seven-day cruise, departing on Sunday, will leave from and return to Norfolk. Guests on both sailings are being informed of the change.
“Our thoughts remain with the impacted families and first responders in Baltimore,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “We appreciate the pledge made by President Biden today to dedicate all available resources to reopen Baltimore Harbor to marine traffic as soon as possible. As those plans are finalized, we will update our future cruise guests on when we will return home to Baltimore, but in the meantime, we appreciate the quick response and support from officials in Norfolk.”
Royal Caribbean’s Baltimore Cruises
Another cruise line, Royal Caribbean, currently operates its ship Vision of the Seas from Baltimore as well. The line has not yet announced where the ship will be returning to from its current cruise or where it will sail from moving forward.
Vision of the Seas
In a statement to The Washington Post, Royal Caribbean said that it is “closely monitoring the situation, and our port logistics team is currently working on alternatives for Vision of the Seas’ ongoing and upcoming sailings. We are deeply saddened by the tragedy and collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge and extend our heartfelt prayers to all those impacted.”
